Send A Letter To Search Engines And Major Portals

Most major search engines and portals make money selling advertising for Adult Content.  They should share the burden of protecting our children.   Google has the ability to track and rank billions of web pages, they should apply equal technological savvy to banning sites from their listings that don't protect minors.   If a site does not have proper protection to keep minors away from adult content, they should not be listed.

Below you will find the letter and contact information to contact the most popular online portals and search engines.  Please send the letter to the ones you use on a regular basis.

Dear Google,

I recently typed the word "porn" into your search engine and was astonished by the amount of material I found.  More disturbing was the fact that I could access an unlimited amount of "adult material" without having to prove that I was an adult.

I am writing to request that you consider the installation of a simple safeguard that will positively affect millions of children.  Our children are being exposed to vulgar, graphic and often time’s violent images both intentionally and accidentally because you have no safeguards in place on the Internet to protect them.  We are requesting that you require that any Internet search engines linking to adult content websites provide password protected filtering services that would allow parents to protect their children from accessing adult material through Google.  We are not asking that you discontinue access, only that you provide more powerful filtering options for parents and grandparents.

Free online pornography and graphic images are reaching millions of under age children every day.  If these images were being displayed on any other media, there would be laws to protect our children.  There are currently over 34.4 million pornographic websites at our children’s fingertips.  Many of these websites use multiple URL’s (domain names) and simple common names to lure unsuspecting viewers.  We have many stories of families using the Internet for homework being inadvertently launched into these sites.  All of us know someone who has been exposed to this material unintentionally.

It would help dramatically if your company could provide parents with a search filtering tool that could be set by parents to filter everything coming into our IP Addresses.  It should be password protected so children couldn't easily circumvent the system.

I want to thank you for your consideration, I don't want to have to ban my children from using your search engine.  I feel there is a much more creative solution that can be implemented from your end, I know you have many highly talented engineers on staff.

Sincerely,

Mr. Bob Johnson
